五月人形の由来や意味は？

昔は、5月〜6月の時期に武家では鎧や兜を出して、家の中に飾る習慣がありました。梅雨の前に武具へ風を通して、虫干しと手入れをするためです。
端午の節句に兜や弓が飾られるのは、こうした武家の習慣に由来すると言われています。
武将にとって鎧や兜は、身を護る大事な装備。五月人形には、病気や事故などの災厄から「わが子を守ってくれるように」と願う両親の祈りが込められているのです。
また、鎧や兜は成功をなした人が持っていたもの。そのことから、「人の上に抜きんでる人に力強く成長してほしい」という想いも込めて飾るようになったとも言われています。
